The City of Pomona was incorporated as a city in 1859. This was the first time that a city was incorporated out of a series of townships that were put together by a quaker group. A lot of the land for this city originally belonged to a person or company that produced cloth and other items. These companies all closed down and the city was incorporated.

The first buildings in Pomona can all be traced back to a building that was built by a man named Nathaniel Hawthorne. The construction of this building took two years and it was used as a store. Later on, it was remodeled and became a grist mill. Later still, it was used as a sawmill. The townspeople at this point felt that they had enough, so they decided to make the town even larger by adding a square shopping center to it.

The history of Pomona can also be known for having some sort of relation to that of the lumber industry of the United States. Some of the town’s early residents were actually lumberjacks. It was because of this town’s proximity to the freeway system that many people headed up there to do their shopping. Eventually, the main road in the area was constructed and this made it easier for commuters to get to work.

There are a number of very interesting sites in the immediate area. The local library offers a gift shop that features a wide selection of fiction, history and reference books. There is also the St. Valentine’s Day celebration, which is celebrated every year on the first Sunday of February. At this celebration, many homes in the town are decorated with white led lights.

In order to go back in time a bit, the local museum also has a display that relates the story of the town of Pomona to that of San Francisco. This includes items such as the first white glove factory and the very first gas light. There is even a replica of the Alta Lancaster, which is thought to be the oldest building in the Western Hemisphere.
